La tenora<\/em> i la bar\u00edtona<\/em> de l\u2019IEC: un punto de encuentro de ci\u00e8ncia i m\u00fasica.<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Presentaci\u00f3n f\u00edsico-matem\u00e0tica.<\/p>\n

El dise\u00f1o \u00f3ptimo de un instrumento musical requiere un conocimiento preciso de lo que se le exige y de su fundamento f\u00edsico. La complejidad de ambos requisitos \u2013que es superior a\u00a0 la usual en proyectos de ingenier\u00eda\u2013 hizo de la ac\u00fastica de los instrumentos musicales un campo de pruebas de los avances en din\u00e1mica te\u00f3rica en muchos departamentos de f\u00edsica, matem\u00e1ticas e ingenier\u00eda mec\u00e1nica, en las d\u00e9cadas de los 70 a los 90.<\/p>\n

En esta presentaci\u00f3n, tras un an\u00e1lisis introductorio de lo que se entiende por sonidos musicales, se plantea lo que debe exigirse a los instrumentos musicales para que los\u00a0 produzcan, y se analizan los requisitos f\u00edsicos que se derivan de ello. Se ilustra la complejidad del fundamento f\u00edsico en el caso de los instrumentos de viento, y muy particularmente de las chirim\u00edas, familia a la que pertenecen la tenora<\/em> y el tible<\/em> \u2013instrumentos tradicionales de Catalu\u00f1a\u2013 y, a partir de ahora, la bar\u00edtona<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Como paso previo al dise\u00f1o cient\u00edfico de estos instrumentos, se presentan diversas contribuciones te\u00f3ricas realizadas por el grupo de investigaci\u00f3n en Ac\u00fastica musical <\/em>de la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Catalu\u00f1a en los \u00faltimos cuarenta a\u00f1os, muy centradas en la ac\u00fastica de los tubos c\u00f3nicos en el dominio temporal. La tenora<\/em> es, en cierto modo, una chirim\u00eda extrema, cuya ac\u00fastica tiene aspectos que pertenecen a la din\u00e1mica ca\u00f3tica determinista.<\/p>\n

Ilustran la metodolog\u00eda del dise\u00f1o cient\u00edfico los dos programas de investigaci\u00f3n del \u201cInstitut d\u2019Estudis Catalans\u201d, uno para al redise\u00f1o de la tenora<\/em>, y el otro para el dise\u00f1o de un nuevo instrumento de la familia de les chirim\u00edas de la cobla<\/em> \u2013formaci\u00f3n musical tradicional de Catalu\u00f1a\u2013: la bar\u00edtona<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The tenora<\/em> and the bar\u00edtone<\/em> of the l\u2019IEC: a meeting point of science and music.<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Physico-mathematical presentation.<\/p>\n

The optimal design of a musical instrument requires an accurate knowledge of its envisaged features and physical foundation. The complexity of both requirements \u2013which is higher than the usual in engineering projects\u2013 made the acoustics of musical instruments a training field for the development of theoretical dynamics in many departments of Physics, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering, from the 70s to the 90s.<\/p>\n

In this presentation, after an introductory analysis dealing with the essence of musical sounds, attention is paid to the requirements to be fulfilled by a musical instrument in order to produce them, and to the corresponding physical requirements. The complexity of the physical foundation is illustrated in the case of wind-instruments, and particularly in that of the shawms. The tenora<\/em> and tible<\/em> \u2013Catalan traditional instruments \u2013 belong to this family, and so does the baritone <\/em>now.<\/p>\n

As a previous step towards the scientific design of those instruments, several theoretical contributions made by the research group on Musical Acoustics <\/em>of the Technical University of Catalonia during the last forty years are presented. They refer mainly to the time-domain acoustics of conical pipes. The tenora<\/em> is somewhat an extreme shawm, whose acoustics falls in the field of the deterministic chaotic dynamics.<\/p>\n

The scientific design methodology is illustrated by means of the two research programmes of the \u201cInstitut d\u2019Estudis Catalans\u201d (Catalan Studies Institute), one to improve the tenora<\/em> and the other to design a new instrument belonging to the cobla<\/em> \u2013the Catalan traditional musical ensemble\u2013 shawms family: the baritone<\/em>.<\/p>\n
